The face is outlined with curved lines, emphasizing the brow bone, and inlaid with black material to highlight the eyes, conveying a sense of both innocence and majesty.

Its limbs are gathered and bent towards the front, with claws detailed with distinct toe markings. The back features simplified mane lines, and the sculpting technique is antique and concise.

The base is flat, unglazed, revealing the clay body. The clay itself is coarse and loose, showing natural earth absorption and aging marks, indicative of the original firing process in a wood-fired kiln.

Historically referred to as a 'Bishia' (wall-warding beast), it is a fusion of lion and auspicious beast imagery. Ancient people believed it protected homes, repelled evil spirits, guarded peace, and deterred ghosts and goblins. It served as a吉祥 (auspicious) decorative item, either buried in noble tombs during the Wei-Jin period or placed as a display on scholars' desks.

A similar form with a socket on the back exists, identified as a lion-shaped candlestick.
