The late Yuan and early Ming Longquan kiln meibo is a significant form in the history of Chinese ceramics. Its exquisite shape and gentle glaze color reflect the evolution of celadon craftsmanship.
Longquan kilns from the late Yuan and early Ming periods generally follow the elongated outline of Song Dynasty meibo, but are even more magnificent and imposing. Typical features include a small mouth, short neck, plump shoulders, a thin base, a rounded foot, and an outwardly curved shape, all with balanced overall proportions. The small mouth, short neck, voluminous shoulders, and curved interior are folded, and the flat base ring extends outward, creating a smooth, flowing line.
The glaze is primarily a bluish-green plum or bean-green glaze, with a thick and smooth glaze layer resembling jade. The meibo is covered entirely in plum-green glaze, resulting in a pure, pure glaze.
Longquan kilns from the late Yuan and early Ming periods were successors to the imperial porcelain, and even during the early Ming period, they were established alongside the Jingdezhen official kilns, which fired porcelain for the imperial court. In crafts, the fetus is thick, the glaze is blue-green with a gray tint, and the firing technique is excellent.
