This is an antique manual yarn winding machine, known as a 'Gwonbogye'. It's a valuable piece of modern folk history, boasting significant collector's value.

Crafted from wood, this machine operates manually. It functions as a reciprocal winder, also referred to as a 'mullae' or 'jidae' (a device that evenly spreads yarn).

This is a rare and precious folk artifact, representing the ingenuity of our ancestors.

Turning the iron handle on the left causes the large wooden wheel and the central shaft to rotate together. Observe the black cylindrical component in the center of the reciprocal conversion mechanism's cam structure; it features diagonally cut grooves. As the shaft rotates, a long wooden lever connected to these grooves moves back and forth, enacting a 'reciprocal motion'.

This mechanism converts rotational force into reciprocal motion, enabling the machine to evenly distribute and wind yarn from side to side, or to shake a sieve back and forth for tasks like winnowing grain.

왼쪽에 달린 철제 손잡이를 돌리면 커다란 나무 바퀴와 축이 함께 회전합니다.
​왕복 변환 장치 캠 구조 중앙의 검은색 원통을 보시면 사선으로 홈이 파여 있습니다.
축이 회전할 때 이 홈을 따라 연결된 긴 나무 레버가 좌우 또는 전후로 왔다 갔다 하는 '왕복 운동'을 하게 됩니다.

회전하는 힘을 왕복 운동으로 바꾸어 주어, 실을 좌우로 골고루 분배해 감아주거나 체를 좌우로 흔들어 곡식을 거르는 역할을 했던 기계 장치입니다.
