Myeong Hwee Won was established as part of the memorial project for the return of Prince Yeongwang, the late Crown Prince Uimin. It was also founded to spread the Gospel to all people and to realize the teachings of Jesus Christ, who leads the less fortunate to salvation.

'Myeong Hwee' is the pen name of Prince Yeongchin, the last Crown Prince of the Joseon Dynasty. Since 1985, the 'Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help' have been in charge of Myeong Hwee Won. It was newly built and relocated to 1273 Sadong, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do on May 8, 1990. On August 1, 1997, the Myeong Hwee Sports Center was expanded and approved, and on December 18, 1998, the shared living home for the disabled 'Love' was established. In the 2004 national social welfare facility evaluation, it was selected as the best facility for the disabled.

명휘원은 고 의민 황태자 영왕의 환국기념사업의 일환으로 설립 되었으며 또한 만민에게 복음을 전하고 어려운 이웃을 구원으로 이끄시는 예수 그리스도의 가르침을 실현하기 위하여 설립 되었다.

‘명휘’는 조선조 마지막 왕세자였던 영친왕의 호다. 1985년부터 명휘원의 운영을 ‘영원한 도움의 성모 수녀회’에서 맡았으며 1990년 5월 8일 경기도 안산시 사동 1273번지로 신축 이전했다. 1997년 8월 1일 명휘체육센터를 증축하여 인가를 받았고, 1998년 12월 18일 장애인 공동생활가정 ‘사랑’을 설립했다. 2004년 전국사회복지시설 평가에서 장애인 생활시설 최우수시설로 선정되었다.
