This is a unique Chinese bronze incense burner from the late Qing Dynasty or Republic era, featuring a Yaksha (or guardian spirit) figure supporting the burner on its head. The body of the incense burner is circular and supported by three legs, with ear-shaped handles on either side. The lid is crafted using openwork (filigree) technique, allowing incense smoke to disperse naturally.

The top of the lid features a decorative element resembling a swan holding a wish-fulfilling pearl, while the body is adorned with phoenix patterns, symbolizing peace, auspiciousness, and longevity. The base depicts a figure, possibly a Yaksha or Lishi (a muscular guardian), bearing the weight of the heavy incense burner, symbolizing strength and protection. Intricate arabesques and auspicious motifs decorate the base, enhancing the overall craftsmanship.

The surface displays natural oxidation, signs of use, and the patina of age, consistent with its historical context. The interior also shows evidence of long-term use as an incense burner.

This piece is exceptionally decorative and artistic, with the incense burner and the supporting figure integrated seamlessly as a single sculptural element, showcasing the distinct characteristics of traditional Chinese metalworking.

야차(夜叉) 형상의 인물이 머리 위로 향로를 떠받치고 있는 독특한 조형의 중국 동제 향로입니다. 향로의 몸체는 원형 삼족 형태로 제작되었으며, 양측에는 귀형 손잡이가 달려 있고 뚜껑은 투각 기법으로 제작되어 향 연기가 자연스럽게 퍼질 수 있도록 구성되었습니다.

뚜껑 정상에는 여의주를 물고 있는 백조 형상의 장식이 표현되어 있으며, 몸체에는 봉황 문양이 둘러져 있어 태평성대와 길상, 장수의 의미를 담고 있습니다. 하단에는 야차(夜叉) 또는 역사(力士)를 형상화한 인물이 무거운 향로를 떠받치는 모습으로 제작되어 강인한 힘과 수호의 의미를 상징하며, 받침대에는 당초문과 길상문이 정교하게 장식되어 전체적인 완성도를 높였습니다.
