This exquisite artwork is by Lou Shibai (娄师白, 1918-2010), a renowned master of Chinese bird-and-flower painting and a prominent disciple of the legendary Qi Baishi.

Lou Shibai, originally named Chao Huai (绍怀), famously changed his name to Lou Shibai to honor his teacher, Qi Baishi, signifying 'My teacher is Qi Baishi.' He was not only Qi Baishi's most accomplished disciple but also a celebrated artist in his own right, sometimes acting as a brush-for-hire for Qi Baishi's works. Lou Shibai displayed exceptional talent in Chinese painting from a young age. At 14, in 1931, he forgo formal schooling to become Qi Baishi's live-in apprentice, immersing himself in the study of traditional Chinese painting, poetry, calligraphy, and seal carving, thus becoming Qi Baishi's undisputed foremost disciple.

This particular piece, created in 1982, showcases Lou Shibai's distinctive style, imbued with the artistic spirit of his mentor, Qi Baishi. It is a magnificent work that radiates the profound character of a master artist.

누사백(娄師白,1918-2010)은 원명이 초회(绍怀)로 스승인 제백석의 이름에서 ‘내 스승은 제백석이다'라는 의미로 아예 이름을 누사백으로 개명한 작가입니다.
설명이 필요 없을 정도로 유명한 중국 화조도의 대가인 누사백은 제백석의 대제자이며 화조도의 대가로, 간혹 제백석 작품의 대필자로 잘 알려진 인물입니다.
이미 어려서부터 중국화에 천재적인 기재를 보이며 14세 때인 1931년 중학교 진학 대신 제백석의 입실제자로 들어가 제백석과 기거하며 중국화는 물론 시, 서, 화, 전각까지 제백석의 모든 것을
배우며 명실상부한 수제자 대제자로 성장을 하게 됩니다.

이 작품은 1982년 작으로 누사백의 화풍에 스승 제백석의 운치가 엿보이는 특별한 작품으로 대가 풍모를 지닌 멋진 작품입니다.
