국새(대한민국지새, 大韓民國之璽): 가운데 상단 대형 인영

대한민국 현대사와 인장사(印章史) 측면에서

매우 흥미롭고 역사적 가치가 높은 자료로 볼 수 있는 점은


1948년~1949년 무렵 제작되어 대한민국 정부 수립 직후부터 사용된

제1호 국새('大韓民國之璽')는 2000년대 중반 정부의 국가기록물 감사 과정에서

실물이 행방불명(분실)된 사실이 공식 확인되었으며, 현재까지도 찾아내지 못한 상태입니다.

제1호 국새의 공식 사용 기간은

대한민국 관인대장 및 행정안전부·국가기록원 기록에 따르면

제1호 국새는 1962년 12월 31일까지 공식 사용되었다고 하나

(1963년 1월 1일부터는 한글 '대한민국'으로 새겨진
제2호 국새인 '거북이 국새'로 교체되어 사용 개시.)

위 훈장증 이후 실제 사용된 서류나 문서는 발견되지 않았다고합니다.

본 훈장증의 날인 일자는 1962년 10월 1일로,

제1호 국새가 폐기·교체되기 불과 3개월 전에 날인된 것으로

매우 희귀한 인영(印影)인 것은 확실합니다.


실물이 사라진 대한민국 제1호 국새('대한민국지새')의

정교한 선명한 인영이 1962년 말 폐기 직전 원형 그대로 남아있어,

국새 연구 및 소장품으로서 가치가 매우 높습니다.
