[BUNJANG] Seolju Song Un-hoe Calligraphy Scroll / 고서화 행초의 달인 설주 송운회 묵서 족자

This is a calligraphy piece by Seolju Song Un-hoe, a master of semi-cursive and cursive script.

Seolju Song Un-hoe (1874-1965) was a representative modern Korean calligrapher who dedicated his life to calligraphy through the turbulent periods of the late Joseon Dynasty, the Japanese colonial era, and the Korean War.

Born in Boseong, Jeollanam-do, he studied under Yeongjae Lee Geon-chang, a prominent scholar of the time.

He was proficient in all five major scripts, including regular, semi-cursive, and cursive. Deeply researching the brushwork of the Ming Dynasty literati Dong Qichang, he completed his own magnificent and mystical 'Seolju' style.

He remained a recluse throughout his life, upholding a strong scholarly spirit, and continued his artistic activities. Famously, he did not put down his brush until just before his death, leaving behind the phrase 'One Heart' (一心) as his final work.

While the semi-cursive and cursive script makes a full translation difficult, the poem appears to be a spring landscape verse, mentioning mulberry leaves and barley shoots turning green in the third month outside the city walls.

The piece is presented in a high-quality scroll and is in good condition.

서예 행초의 달인이신 설주 송운회 선생의 묵서입니다.
설주 송운회 (1874~1965)선생은 구한말부터 일제강점기 6·25 전쟁의 격동기를 거치며 평생을 서예에 바친 근대 한국의 대표적인 서예가입니다.
전남 보성 출신으로 당대 대학자였던 영재 이건창의 문하에서 수학했습니다.
해서 행서 초서 등 5체에 모두 능했으며 명나라 문인 동기창의 필법을 깊이 연구하여 웅장하고 신비로운 설주체를 완성했습니다.
강직한 선비 정신으로 평생 야인으로 남아 작품 활동을 하였으며 임종 직전까지 붓을 놓지 않고 마지막 글씨로 一心 을 남긴 것으로 유명합니다.
글씨는 행초라 전체 해석하긴 힘들지만
대충 상동문 밖 봄 삼월에 뽕잎과 보리싹이 푸르러간다는 봄날의 풍경을 읊은 한시 구절같습니다.
상태는 고급족자가 되어있어 양호합니다.
크기는 폈을때 200×44 정도입니다.
