**Description:**
This artifact features oracle bone script, one of the earliest known forms of Chinese characters, inscribed on turtle shells and ox bones by the royal court of China's Shang Dynasty. These inscriptions were used for divination and recording state affairs, including crucial matters like warfare, agriculture, and religious ceremonies.

Initially, during the late Qing Dynasty, the value of these inscriptions was unrecognized. They were ground into powder and used as a medicinal ingredient known as 'dragon bone' (용골), leading to the destruction of countless oracle bone fragments. It wasn't until 1899, when scholar Wang Yirong discovered ancient characters on these medicinal bones, that systematic research began. This discovery ultimately confirmed the existence of the Shang Dynasty and established the historical framework of ancient Chinese civilization through tangible artifacts.

This particular piece is an excavated artifact from the Yin Ruins region of the ancient Shang Dynasty. It has not undergone formal appraisal, and is therefore offered at a competitive price. Such artifacts are rarely encountered.

갑골문은 중국 상나라 왕실에서 거북 껍질과 소뼈에 점괘와 국가 기록을 새긴 가장 오래된 한자 체계 가운데 하나로, 전쟁·농사·제사 같은 중요한 일을 점치기 위해 사용되었습니다. 그러나 청나라 말기까지도 그 가치를 몰랐던 사람들은 이를 ‘용골(龍骨)’이라는 한약재로 여겨 갈아 약으로 사용했고, 수많은 갑골문이 이 과정에서 사라졌습니다. 이후 1899년 학자 왕의영이 약재 속 갑골에서 고대 문자를 발견하면서 본격적인 연구가 시작되었고, 이를 통해 상나라의 실존과 중국 고대문명의 역사 체계가 실제 유물로 입증되게 되었습니다.
