This is an antique jar from the Cizhou Ware lineage, dating back to the Song-Yuan period (11th-14th century), representing the pinnacle of Northern folk kilns.

Cizhou Ware is renowned for its departure from the standardized ceramics of the imperial court, embracing a free-spirited and unconventional aesthetic. It is characterized by its use of iron-rich, coarse northern clay and dynamic glaze applications.

This jar, a `soho` (small jar), embodies the daily life and natural artistry of the common people. Measuring 16.5cm in height, it is a typical unearthed artifact from the ancient folk kilns, lacking any artificial marks or seals.

The surface displays a fascinating `yao bian` (kiln transformation) effect, with irregular splashes of ochre and bluish-grey hues appearing on the dark brown, iron-rich base, a result of the firing process. The unglazed bottom, revealing the coarse clay, is a characteristic feature of Song-Yuan `soho` ware.

Natural marks from being detached from the kiln shelf and signs of oxidation from centuries buried in the earth are honestly preserved, adding to its authenticity and the depth of its history.

With its compact and stable 16.5cm size, this `soho` form was historically used to store precious medicinal herbs or tea leaves. It serves beautifully as a vase for East Asian floral arrangements (ikebana) in modern interiors or as a Wabi-Sabi style decorative object.

송원대(宋元代) 북방 자주요 계열 흑유 요변 소호(고도자 골동품 항아리)

송~원 시대(11세기~14세기, 대략 1000년대~1300년대) 중국 북방을 대표하는 최대의 민간 가마터인 자주요(磁州窯) 계열에서 제작된 고도자 골동품입니다.

자주요는 황실의 규격화된 도자기와 달리 민간의 자유분방하고 파격적인 미감을 담아낸 것으로 유명하며, 특히 철분이 풍부한 북방 고유의 거친 흙과 역동적인 유약 표현이 특징입니다.
본 소호 역시 서민들의 생활 문화와 가마터의 자연스러운 미감이 고스란히 살아있는 유물입니다.

실물 높이는 16.5cm 크기이며, 별도의 인위적인 관지나 낙관이 없는 전형적인 고대 민요 출토품입니다.
