Spitz (スピッツ) - Debut Album

Release Date: March 25, 1991

This is the self-titled debut album by the Japanese rock band Spitz. Recorded over approximately one month starting in October 1990, half of the songs were selected from their amateur days.

Conscious of the indie label Creation Records' approach of not using artist photos on the cover, Spitz adopted this policy from this album onwards, maintaining it for all subsequent releases except for their 4th album, .

For the back cover photo, the band members personally selected and used their own clothing. This decision stemmed from their experience before their debut, where they struggled to communicate their stylistic preferences to stylists and makeup artists for promotional materials. The resulting photos often diverged from their intended vision. Following an argument with the producer, they took control of styling and makeup themselves.

Kusano has commented on the pre-debut promotional materials, stating, "It's laughable now, but it wasn't funny at the time."

Kusano apparently does not have fond memories of this album's production. He mentioned that the engineers were frustrated by the unusually high number of takes, as the band strived to create a perfect product worthy of professional release. He was even scolded by an engineer due to the seemingly endless recording process.

スピッツ는 일본 록 밴드 스피츠의 데뷔 앨범.
1990년 10월부터 약 1개월에 녹음. 수록곡의 절반은 아마추어 시절의 악곡에서 추려졌다.
인디레이블, 크리에이션 레코즈의 앨범을 본받아, 표자켓에 아티스트 사진을 사용하지 않는다는 방침을 본작에서 의식. 이 방침은 4집앨범 를 제외하고, 스피츠의 앨범 전부로 일관하고 있다.
뒷자켓의 사진에서는, 멤버 스스로 선택한 옷을 구입해 사용하고 있다. 그렇게 된 이유는, 데뷔전에 매스컴 발표나 판매점용의 프로모션 자료를 제작할 때, 자신의 희망을 담당 스타일리스트나 헤어 메이크업에게 어떻게 전해야 좋을지 몰라서, 복장이나 헤어 스타일등을 맡겼기 때문에, 완성된 사진의 사진이 자신의 의도와는 동떨어진 것이 되어 버렸다 라고한다. 프로듀서에게 항의한 이후 스타일리스트나 헤어 메이크업을 할 수 없게 되었기 때문이다. 
또 쿠사노는 데뷔전의 프로모션 자료에 대해 「지금 보면 웃을 수 있지만, 당시는 웃을 일이 아니었다」라고 코멘트하고 있다.
이 앨범의 제작은 쿠사노에게 별로 좋은 기억이 없는 듯, 본인의 이야기라면 프로가 만든 상품으로 발매하는 이상 어디에 내놓아도 부끄럽지 않은 완벽한 것을 만들려고 했기 때문인지, 테이크수가 비정상적으로 많아져, 언제까지나 끝이 보이지 않는 상황에 화를 낸 엔지니어에게 혼난 적도 있었다 라고 한다.
