This coin was minted in 1644 by Zhang Xianzhong, who led a peasant uprising and established the Da Xi regime in Chengdu. It was named Da Shun after his reign title. The issuance of this currency aimed to break away from the collapsing Ming Dynasty's economic system and solidify the foundation of an independent regime, serving as a crucial indicator of the rebel army's influence and economic self-reliance.
## Collectible Value
The Da Xi regime lasted only about two years before its fall, making the minting period of this coin very short and thus highly rare. Notably, the '工' (Gong) character engraved at the bottom of the reverse side signifies that it was managed and minted by the Ministry of Works (工部) of the regime at the time. This unique characteristic, combined with its historical specificity, makes it highly sought after by collectors due to its rarity and concrete historical significance.
