This is an authentic piece of calligraphy (Yumok) handwritten by Jeon Hak-yeon (1783-1859), the eldest son of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong (1762-1836).

Jeon Hak-yeon was a prominent figure who inherited his father's scholarship and family traditions. He played a crucial role in continuing their academic exchange and transmitting Dasan's scholarly lineage, even during Jeong Yak-yong's exile in Gangjin.

The calligraphy is rendered in a neat yet dignified 'Haeseo' (regular script) style. The stable structure and restrained brushstrokes offer a glimpse into the scholarly dignity and depth of cultivation of a late Joseon Dynasty literati.

Jeon Hak-yeon dedicated himself to organizing and preserving his father Jeong Yak-yong's writings, acting as a vital bridge in the transmission of Dasan's scholarship to later generations. He is particularly valued as an indispensable figure for understanding the practical learning (Silhak) spirit and the Namin (Southern School) academic tradition of the late Joseon period.

The texture of the aged paper, which has endured over time, and the natural sense of age enhance the historical significance of the artwork. This piece holds invaluable documentary worth, offering insights into the scholarly traditions and literati culture of a distinguished late Joseon family.
