[BUNJANG] Joseon Dynasty Celadon Scholar's Brush Washer / 백자철고정문필세

This scholar's brush washer features a design inspired by the nail heads used to secure leather on books, originating from the Song Dynasty Jun ware or Yuan Dynasty Chubai celadon, reflecting the formal style favored by royalty and the upper class.

The base and its surroundings, as well as the interior, are in a 'rough' state. It is inscribed with the auspicious character '복' (Bok, meaning fortune) in ink, a style commonly seen from the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty through the Qing Dynasty, where auspicious words like '수' (Su, longevity) and '록' (Rok, prosperity) were boldly written.

While there are some areas with slight color variations, the piece boasts a gracefully curved rim (a 'crane's neck' shape) that considers the functionality of a brush washer. The stable weight and the vibrancy provided by the 'iron drum nail' decoration blend harmoniously, creating a masterpiece.

Dimensions are approximately 8.5 cm in height, 17 cm in rim diameter, and 19.5 cm in body diameter. The condition is complete (excluding the stand).

북에 가죽을 고정할 때 사용하는 못 머리에서 유래한 디자인으로
송대 균요나 원대 추부백자 등에서 볼 수 있는 황실과 상류층 취향의
격식있는 형태입니다.
굽과 그 주변 그리고 내저는 노태상태인데,
길상관지 '복(福)'자 먹으로 씌여 있습니다.
이는 주로 명대 중후기부터 청대에 이르기까지
수(壽)자, 록(祿) 등의 길상어를 크게 적는 방식으로
널리 유행한 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
부분적으로 이색(異色)진 부분이 있기는 하나
필세의 기능을 충분히 고려한 내반된 (염구형)구연부와
안정감 있는 무게감과 철고정(鐵鼓釘)문 장식이 주는 생동감이
잘 어우러진 명품이라 하겠습니다.
