An early Joseon Dynasty white porcelain 'Ip-ho' (standing jar).

This artifact features a unique proportion with broad shoulders and a plump body, characteristic of its period. The glaze flows naturally, and the potter's rough marks add to its charm. The surface, formed by ash adhering during the firing process, exudes an ancient elegance.

While commonly perceived as imperfect by some in Korea, this type of piece is often favored in Japan for its aesthetic appeal within the Wabi-Sabi tradition, which finds beauty in imperfection and simplicity.

Considering its age and burial history, the glaze condition is remarkably good. However, due to prolonged burial and repeated cycles of freezing and thawing, two hairline cracks, approximately 4cm long, have appeared around the mouth rim. Please refer to the last two photos.

It would be exceptionally beautiful repurposed as a vase with Kintsugi repair using silver or gold.

조선초기 백자입호 (朝鮮初期白磁立壺)

조선시대 초기에 제작된 백자 입호입니다. 넓은 어깨에 통통한 몸체를 가져 비례감이 매우 독특한 것이 특징인 기물입니다. 자연스럽게 흘러내린 유약과 투박한 도공의 손자국이 매력적입니다. 특히 소성 과정에서 잿가루가 달라붙어 형성된 표면에서는 고태미가 흐릅니다. 한국분들은 불량품이라며 선호하지 않지만 일본에서는 불완전함, 소박함에서 아름다움을 찾는 전통 미학인 와비사비(侘び寂び) 덕에 선호하는 종류입니다.
출토품 치고 유약 상태가 매우 좋습니다. 그러나 오랫동안 매장되어 있는 과정에서 흙과 함께 얼고, 녹기를 반복하면서 구연부 주변 2군데에 약 4cm 정도의 실유가 생겼습니다. 마지막 두 사진 참고 바랍니다.
은이나 금으로 킨츠키 수리하여 화병으로 사용하면 아주 아름다울 듯 합니다.
