An exquisite piece from Kimon-do, renowned in Japan for its premium cast iron teapots.

Kimon-do was established by a master craftsman who separated from the well-known Ryumon-do. Founded in the mid-19th century, production ceased after the 1950s, making these pieces no longer manufactured. They are highly valued as works of art by antique collectors and tea connoisseurs, commanding very high prices in the market.

This particular item is unappraised and is being offered at the price point of a counterfeit Kimon-do piece.

In my personal opinion, this piece appears to be authentic. Factors such as the quality of the material (distinguishing it from low-cost Chinese alternatives), the intricate detail of the carvings, and the artist's mark ('rakkan') suggest a low probability of it being a replica.

The teapot presented is in a condition that suggests it can still be used. It features a well-executed bamboo motif.

Dimensions: Height 21cm * Width 16cm * Depth 19.2cm.

Markings include 'Japan Kimon-do' and a base seal ('rakkan'). A signature box is not present. The handle cannot be laid down.
