This is a traditional Jihogongye paper Hamjibak container, estimated to have been made during the Japanese colonial period.

Jihogongye is a technique where paper is soaked in water, mixed with glue to form a paste, shaped, and then dried. This method was primarily used to create everyday items like Hamjibak (large bowls) and Haps (boxes).

Specifically, paper Hamjibak were widely used as traditional household goods.

This Hamjibak has a round shape. The exterior is decorated with bluish Hanji (traditional Korean paper), while the interior features yellowish-brown Hanji.

The surface shows the texture of aged paper, with discoloration, stains, and wear consistent with age and use. The interior is adorned with paper densely inscribed with Hanja (Chinese characters), giving it a unique feel.

Most notably, despite being made of paper, it is lightweight yet sturdy.

It is an excellent item for collectors of traditional folk crafts or as a versatile interior decor piece.

일제강점기 때 만들어진 것으로 추정되는 전통 지호공예 종이 함지박입니다.
지호공예란, 종이를 물에 불려 풀과 섞어 반죽한 뒤 형태를 만들어 건조하는 기법으로 함지박, 합 등 생활 용기를 주로 제작했습니다.
특히 종이 함지박은 실제 전통 생활용품으로 많이 사용되었습니다.

이 함지박은 둥근 형태이며 겉면은 푸른빛의 한지, 내부는 황토빛의 한지로 되어 있습니다.
표면은 오래된 종이의 질감과 사용에 따른 변색, 오염, 마모 등이 있고, 내부는 한자가 빼곡히 필사된 종이로 꾸며져 색다른 느낌입니다.
무엇보다 종이로 만들어져 가볍지만 견고합니다.

전통 민속품 수집용이나 다양한 인테리어 소품으로 활용하기 좋습니다.
