Tokoname Ware (常滑焼) is a deeply historic ceramic produced in the Tokoname City area of Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and is recognized as one of Japan's Six Old Kilns (日本六古窯).
Characterized by its coarse, hard, grayish-white to yellowish-brown clay body and often finished with natural ash glaze or glazes in the Shino or Seto styles, this piece embodies a rustic charm.
The distinct horizontal twin band of potter's wheel marks (轆轤) midway on the body adds a formal elegance to the understated texture of the clay, showcasing the refined form of a ceremonial tea utensil.
