[BUNJANG] 1868 Meiji Nibun-ban Gold Coin / 1868
The Meiji Nibun-ban is a coin minted during the tumultuous early period of the Meiji Restoration in 1868, as power transitioned from the Edo Shogunate to the new government. The new government, in order to finance the Boshin War and stabilize early finances, continued the system of the existing Man'en Nibun-ban and issued this coin for a short period of just over a year. The Nibun-ban coins of the Meiji era are characterized by their dull color due to lower gold purity, which was intended to increase profit from coinage.
