This is a rare, handwritten compilation of Neo-Confucian texts, estimated to have been meticulously transcribed in 1914 during the Gapin (甲寅) year.

Measuring approximately 18cm wide by 21cm long, the manuscript consists of 51 pages of content, excluding the front and back covers. An additional page is present before the front cover and after the back cover.

This is not a simple copy of a single text, but rather a comprehensive collection. It begins with `Zhongyong Shuo` (Discourse on the Doctrine of the Mean), followed by `Daxue Shuo` (Discourse on the Great Learning) in the middle section. Approximately two-thirds of the way through, it features 147 Neo-Confucian poems related to Zhu Xi, followed by several other classical Chinese poems.

Therefore, this manuscript is more than just a transcription of the original texts of `Zhongyong` and `Daxue`. It is judged to be a learning and lecture-use manuscript compiled to explain the meanings of these classics and to learn Neo-Confucian teachings and self-cultivation through poetry. It likely served as a practical resource for Confucian scholars of the era for their studies and literary pursuits.

The final page of the `Daxue` section bears the inscription, “崇禎紀元後五周甲寅暮春下浣” (Chongzhen Yuanhou Wuzhou Gapin Muchun Xiaguan), interpreted as the latter part of the third lunar month in the Gapin year, the fifth cycle after the Chongzhen era, which corresponds to 1914.

Following this, “庸學講說篇終” (Yong Xue Jiang Shuo Pian Zhong) signifies the completion of the lectures on `Zhongyong` and `Daxue`. Such concluding remarks are crucial for determining not only the structure but also the transcription period of the book.

A square seal is also imprinted at the bottom of the final page. While the exact inscription is difficult to ascertain from photographs alone, it likely represents the calligrapher or a previous owner, providing insight into the manuscript's provenance and ownership history.

The front and back covers show signs of wear and damage due to age and handling, appearing quite worn. However, the content itself has been fully examined from beginning to end, with no missing pages or content breaks. The entire text, from `Zhongyong Shuo` to `Daxue Shuo`, Zhu Xi's 147 Neo-Confucian poems, and the subsequent verses, is completely intact.

This valuable artifact, over 100 years old, showcases evidence of actual study and lecture use, the calligrapher's unique handwriting, dating inscriptions, a square seal, and a compilation of various Neo-Confucian texts. It is a significant resource for understanding traditional Confucian education, Neo-Confucian scholarship, Chinese manuscript culture, and the collection of old books from the late Joseon Dynasty to the early Japanese colonial period.

* Please note that due to the nature of handwritten manuscripts, there may be differences in interpretation regarding specific titles and names.
* The covers are in a worn condition; please examine the photos carefully to assess their state.
* All 51 pages of the main text are complete, with no missing pages or content interruptions.
