**Artist Profile:**
Before debuting as a singer, Chae Nari was active as a model and MC. She appeared as a VJ on Mnet's 'Club 19' and showcased lively hosting on SBS's 'Curiosity Heaven' segment 'Movie Catch-Up,' 'Star School' on 'Happy Saturday,' and iTV's 'Music Chart Battle.' Initially positioned as an "all-around entertainer," she expressed in interviews her aspiration to establish herself as an actress after her music career. During her studies at Anyang Arts High School, she transferred to a school closer to Seoul for smoother entertainment activities. In May 1999, before her debut, she was discovered by a female casting director conducting 'street casting' with a camcorder near Gangnam Station in Seoul while meeting a friend.

Two months later, after first appearing as an MC and VJ, she entered the music industry through an open audition held by her agency, Gun Production.

Chae Nari's debut album was a collaboration between composer Oh Joon-sung (then credited as Oh Bong-joon) and Japanese producer Hideyuki 'Daichi' Suzuki. The album credits also indicate that most of the staff involved in arrangement and visual concepts were Japanese.

**Album Details:**
The title track of her first full-length album is the mid-tempo song ****. The concept was described as incorporating the splendor and mystery reminiscent of an Egyptian queen. Composer Oh Joon-sung later re-recorded a Korean version of the song, titled ****, for the SBS drama 'My Girl' OST in 2005, sung by Jo Kwan-woo and Park Hee-kyung. Aside from the lyrics, it is essentially the same song.

The follow-up song chosen was the dance track ****. The album features three versions of the song: a ballad version titled **Blue Cosmos**, a dance version titled **White Cosmos**, and a club remix version titled **Black Cosmos**. Chae Nari promoted the **Black Cosmos** version, which was shortened to just **Cosmos** for broadcast by removing the extended intro. While fans sometimes listen to the **White Cosmos** version as a substitute, as it closely resembles the album version without the beat-heavy broadcast arrangement, the **Black Cosmos** version was used for promotions.

**Career Context:**
Unfortunately, Chae Nari's debut coincided with the peak of the music industry, preventing her album from gaining significant traction, and her promotional activities concluded shortly after. J로, SBS 호기심 천국의 '영화 따라잡기' 코너에서는 깜짝 연기를, 기쁜 우리 토요일의 '스타 스쿨'과 iTV '가요순위 쟁탈전'의 MC로 발랄한 진 행을 선보인 바 있다. 기본적으로 당시 유행하던 "만능 엔터테이너"를 염두에 두고 만들어진 연예인이라고 소개했으며 가수 이후에는 기반을 잡아 연기자로서 최종적으로 선보이겠다며 인터뷰 했었다. 안양예고에 서 연기 실습을 하며 재학 중 서울과 거리가 멀어 원활한 연예계 활동을 위해 가까운 학교로 전학했으며 [5] 채나리는 데뷔 전인 1999년 5월, 친 구를 만나기 위해 서울 강남역 근처로 놀러 갔다가 당시 캠코더를 들고 ' 거리 캐스팅'에 나선 한 여성 캐스팅 디렉터의 눈에 띄어 인연을 맺었다.
