When a die (minting stamp) is used extensively to mint coins, cumulative stress can weaken its surface. A portion of the die may chip off, creating irregular empty spaces on the die's surface. When coins are minted with a die that has these missing fragments, the empty space is impressed as a raised area onto the coin's surface. Coins with this raised, added element beyond the original design are called 'Die Chip Error' coins.

다이(극인) 일부분이 깨져 조각이 떨어져 나와 다이(극인)의 표면에 불규칙한 공간이 생기게 됩니다.
깨져 나가 빈 공간이 있는 다이(극인)로 동전을 찍으면 그 부분이 양각으로 동전 표면에 튀어나오게 되고
원래의 도안 이외에 양각으로 튀어나온 부분이 추가된 동전을 다이칩 에러 주화라고 부릅니다.
