A limestone turtle statue from the late Ming Dynasty. In China, turtles symbolize longevity and protection. This piece was unearthed after a long period, resulting in significant weathering and calcification on the surface, giving it a rustic appearance. Despite its rough texture, it is a charming work carved by hand using chisels and nails. The shell is round and raised, with well-defined head, four legs, tail, eyes, and mouth. The base shows marks from being smoothed with chisels and whetstones. The stone carving is substantial in weight.

明末期 石灰岩 거북(龜)像으로 중국에서는 長壽와 守護를 상징하며 오랜 歲月 埋藏出土되어 風化로 표면이 많이 마모되고 石灰質이 침착되어 전체적으로 투박한느낌이지만 수작업으로 끌과 釘으로 깎아낸 정감있는 作品으로 등은 둥글게 솟아있고 머리.네다리.꼬리와 눈과 입이 잘표현되었으며 바닦은 끌과 숫돌로 다듬은 痕迹이 관찰되며 돌을 彫刻해 무게감이 상당함.
