Estimated to be from the Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE), this is a bird-shaped pottery vessel.

While the possibility of it being a later reproduction cannot be entirely ruled out, there are many positive indicators such as well-dried red clay, simple construction, decorative eye details, and appropriate weight, making a definitive conclusion difficult.

However, even if it is not a genuine Han Dynasty artifact, its outstanding sculptural beauty makes it an excellent decorative piece. Furthermore, as it belongs to a rare category of pottery, it is considered to have significant collector's value.

The main body, resembling a hull, could symbolize embarking on a journey to another world by boat, and the bird shape can be understood as a medium connecting the earthly and celestial realms.

Regardless, this artifact strongly suggests a ritualistic or funerary purpose rather than practical use.

한대(전206~후220년)의 명기로 추정되는
조형(鳥形) 토기이다.
물론, 후대 재현품일 가능성도 완전히 배제할 수는 없겠으나
잘 건조된 붉은 태토와 소박한 성형에 장식적 눈 표현,
적정한 무게 등 긍정적 요소들도 다분히 있어
단정하기는 어렵다.(그럼에도 가격은 후대 방품값으로...)
선체(船體) 같은 본체는 배를 타고 또 다른 세상으로 가는 것을
상징한다고도 볼 수 있고,
새 모양 또한 지상과 천상을 연결하는 매개체로 이해 할 수도 있겠다.
아무튼 이 기물은 실용적인 용도보다는
제의적(祭儀的)이거나 부장용(副葬用)의 성격이 강하다 하겠다.
진짜 한대 유물이 아니라 하더라도
조형미가 뛰어나 장식 효과가 좋을 뿐 아니라
희귀한 토기에 속하므로 소장가치도 크다고 본다.
크기는 높이 약 18.5, 길이 23.5cm이고
상태는 구연부 미세 튐 외에 완전하다.
