This mythical figure wears a large V-shaped horn or crown on its head and holds its hands together in front of its chest or abdomen, appearing to be in meditation or prayer.
The rear view shows a typical Neolithic perforation technique, known as 'Niupikong' (ox nose hole), where holes were drilled from opposite directions to allow for a string to be threaded through for wearing the artifact.
The Hongshan Culture developed primarily around the Liao River basin in southern Inner Mongolia and Liaoning Province in China, representing a significant Egalitarian Neolithic culture in Northeast Asia.
This piece dates to the late Neolithic period (approximately 4,000 BCE - 3,000 BCE), corresponding to about 5,000 to 6,000 years ago.
