## Imperial Capital Rehabilitation Commemorative Medal (1930)

This medal commemorates the reconstruction efforts following the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, which devastated Tokyo and Yokohama.

### Historical Context:
On September 1, 1923, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck the Kanto region, destroying much of Tokyo and Yokohama and causing over 140,000 fatalities. Reconstruction became a top national priority for the Imperial Japanese government.

This medal was instituted on August 13, 1930, during the reign of Emperor Hirohito, as a token of national gratitude to those who contributed to the capital's rebuilding.

### Medal Design:
* **Obverse (See Photo 2):** Features a cityscape of Tokyo, rays of the rising sun, and cherry blossoms at the bottom. The Imperial Seal of the 16-petal chrysanthemum (菊紋) is at the top. The cherry blossoms symbolize rebirth and the revival of the Japanese spirit.
* **Reverse (See Photo 1):** Inscribed with "帝都復興記念章" (Imperial Capital Rehabilitation Commemorative Medal) and "昭和五年三月" (March of Showa 5), corresponding to March 1930.
* **Ribbon:** A 36mm wide ribbon with green stripes and a white center. The green symbolizes hope, while white represents peace and purity after reconstruction.
