[BUNJANG] Joseon White Porcelain Hexagonal Incense Bottle /
The slightly flared and widened mouth, characteristic of pottery from the late 19th to early 20th century (circa 1875-1925), is a notable feature. During that era, incense bottles were crafted through a meticulous process:
1. The clay was steeped in water for 3-4 days to remove impurities.
2. The viscous material was then placed on a potter's wheel to form a cylindrical shape.
3. The round bottle was thickly formed and, after partial drying, was meticulously carved into a hexagonal shape.
4. The initial firing was done at 700 degrees Celsius.
5. After glazing, a second firing at 1250 degrees Celsius was performed.
Irregularities in surface finishing or inaccurate angles could lead to variations in color tone and uneven shrinkage during firing, often resulting in deformities. Consequently, potters generally avoided such complex processing, making these hexagonal forms exceptionally rare.
This white porcelain hexagonal incense bottle is considered quite rare and valuable. We are pleased to offer this piece for your consideration. We welcome your offers.
