STRAY SHEEP 는 요네즈 켄시의 메이저 4집, 통산 5집 앨범으로서 2020년 8월5일에 SME Records 로부터 발매되었다.
뮤직비디오 조회수 5억을 돌파한 'Lemon' 을 비롯해 싱글곡 'Flamingo', 'TEENAGERIOT', '바다유령', '말과 사슴' 외 일본 레코드 대상을 수상한 Forin '파프리카' 셀프커버전, TBS 금요드라마 'MIU404' 주제가로 결정된 '감전', 노다 요지로와의 첫 콜라보레이션 악곡 'PLACEBO+노다 요지로', 그리고 스가다 마사키에게 악곡을 제공해 MV 1억 재생을 돌파하고 있는 「틀림찾기」의 셀프 커버 버전을 포함한, 전 15곡을 수록.
2020년을 대표하는 1장이 될 뿐만 아니라 현재를 살아가는 모든 이들에게 마스터피스가 될 앨범이다.
앨범의 피지컬은 3개의 초회한정반과 통상반의 4가지 형태로 발매되었다.
초회 한정반인 오마모리반은 스페셜 박스 사양으로 열쇠고리가 특전으로 붙는다.
마찬가지로 초회한정반인 아트북반은 96페이지에 걸친 북클렛과 디스크가 봉입된다. (DVD와 Blu-ray 버전이 각각 출시) 디스크에는 마쿠하리 멧세에서 개최된 '요네즈 겐시 2019 TOUR/척추가 오팔이 될 무렵' 최종 공연 풀 사이즈와 싱글 발매된 6곡의 뮤직비디오가 수록된다.
이 작품은 코로나19 유행 하에 만들어져 요네즈가 '혼돈한 사회상황 속에서 내가 어떤 것을 만들어야 할지' 를 생각해야 했던 것이 앨범의 주제 중 하나로, 찬란하고 생동감 있는 펑크넘버와 가슴을 사로잡을 만한 발라드, 불온하고 다크한 악곡 등 다양한 유형의 악곡이 수록되어 있다.
그 내용 등이 평가돼 본작은 '제13회 CD샵 대상'에서 '대상을, 〈SPACE SHOWER MUSIC AWARDS 2021〉에서는 'BESTALBUM OF THE YEARD' 를 수상했다.
또한 이 작품으로 요네츠는 제71회 예술선상에서 대중예능부문 신인상을 수상한 바 있다.
또 세일즈 면에서도 기록적인 히트를 기록, 첫 주 매출 88만장을 기록해 오리콘 주간 앨범 랭킹, Billboard Japan Hot Albums 모두 4주 연속 1위를 기록했다.
