This is a traditional Korean ceremonial dagger, known as an Eunjangdo.

**Dimensions:**
* Length: 17 cm

**Estimated Period:** Approximately 100 years old, likely from the late Joseon Dynasty.

**Materials:**
* While named 'Eunjangdo' (Silver Dagger), the primary material is *not* silver.
* The handle and scabbard are crafted from dark wood (Gwimok) with white brass (Baekdong) ornamentation.

**Condition:**
This piece is in good condition, showing only the natural patina of age. The blade shows slight signs of rust. Overall, it is well-preserved and aesthetically pleasing.

**Historical Significance:**
The exact origin of the Eunjangdo is unclear, but dagger-shaped ornaments have been found in Silla Dynasty tombs (e.g., a pure gold artifact on a belt from Hwangnamdaechong Tomb), suggesting a possible origin around that period. Records from the Goguryeo era also mention Yeon Gaesomun, a historical figure, reportedly always wearing five daggers to display his authority, which might refer to smaller daggers like the Eunjangdo, as carrying multiple large swords would be impractical.

During the Joseon Dynasty, social status dictated the use of certain accessories. Regulations mentioned in the Annals of King Yeonsan indicate that while commoners were restricted from using Eunjangdo, certain officials could use them. Furthermore, the use of specific materials like jade, amber, coral, and lapis lazuli, along with Eunjangdo, was strictly prohibited for anyone below the rank of Dang-sang (high-ranking official).

Artisans who specialized in making these daggers were known as 'Jangdojang' (粧刀匠). Royal Eunjangdo were exclusively produced within the palace.

This Eunjangdo is considered a valuable ethnographic artifact with high collectible value. Thank you.
