The round lid is adorned with a three-dimensional dragon and phoenix pattern, symbolizing the union of dragon and phoenix, which traditionally represents harmony, prosperity, wealth, and good fortune. The motif depicts the mythical creatures facing each other amidst clouds.

The body of the inkstone is also richly carved with multiple dragons, clouds, and wave patterns around its circumference. The detailed rendering of the dragon's face, scales, mane, and the lines of the clouds and waves creates a remarkable sense of depth and decorative beauty from any angle.

Upon opening the lid, a spacious round ink-grinding area is revealed, featuring two fish patterns facing each other. The upper section includes two recessed areas, offering both aesthetic appeal and practicality.
