I honestly grade my records, not by inflating them to the highest tier.
M - Mint (Almost new)
NM - Near Mint (Good condition. Minor scratches may be present)
EX - Excellent (Decent condition. Scratches or marks present but do not significantly affect playback)
VG - Very Good (Shows signs of age. Frequent scratches and damage present)
G - Good (Significant damage, but playable for listening)
Records are generally considered collectible up to EX grade for display and listening. However, grades below EX are still acceptable for listening purposes.
I do not sell records that have playback issues based on the above criteria.
