[BUNJANG] Lee Nam-ho Sparrow on Plum Blossoms Painting / 동양화 금추 이남호 춘심 괴석위 매화의 참새

This artwork, titled "Spring Heart," depicts sparrows perched on plum blossoms above a peculiar rock, painted by Geumchu Lee Nam-ho. Lee Nam-ho (1908-2001), a modern and contemporary Korean painter from Dalseong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, was a student of Lee Dang Kim Eun-ho and studied at Peking University in China. He excelled in figure painting, animal painting, and genre paintings.

He expressed humorous, uniquely Korean sentiments through his original painting style and is known for works such as "The Naval Battle of Chungmugong at Hyeonchungsa." As one of the reclusive artists who did not participate in the National Art Exhibition, he mainly created folk and indigenous works with a humorous and free-spirited brushstroke.

He handled various subjects such as flowers and birds, animals, landscapes, figures, and still-life, and especially showed outstanding skills in figure and animal paintings. He actively participated in exhibitions, including the selection of the Joseon Art Exhibition in 1943-1944 and a retrospective exhibition at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in 1979. He also contributed to the development of local art, focusing on Jeonju.

Currently, his works are held in major institutions such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Bank of Korea. Throughout his life, he worked as an independent painter and is recognized for modernly succeeding the tradition of genre painting that was disconnected after the 19th century.

This work well represents the heart of spring, with sparrows chirping over plum blossoms. Painted in the year of Shinyu, 1981. The condition of the painting is good, but the frame may require some repair.

금추 이남호 선생의 春心 괴석위 매화의 참새입니다.
금추 이남호(1908~2001)선생은 경북 달성 출신으로 이당 김은호에게 사사하고 중국 베이징대에서 수학한 근현대 한국화가로 특히 인물화와 영모화 풍속화에 뛰어났습니다.
독창적인 화법으로 해학적인 한국 고유의 정서를 표현했으며 현충사 충무공해전도 등을 남긴 작가입니다. 
국전에 참여하지 않은 재야 작가 중 한 명으로 주로 민속적이고 토속적인 작품들을 해학적이고 자유분방한 필치로 그려냈습니다.
화조, 영모, 산수, 도석, 기명절지 등 다양한 화목을 다루었으며 특히 인물과 영모화에 뛰어난 기량을 보였습니다.
1943년~1944년 조선미술전람회 입선 1950년대 백양회 회원전 활동 1979년 세종문화회관 회고전 등 활발한 전시 활동을 했으며 전주를 중심으로 활동하며 지역 미술 발전에도 기여했습니다. 
현재 국립현대미술관 청와대 한국은행 등 주요 기관에서 그의 작품을 소장하고 있습니다.
평생 야인화가로 활동하며 19세기 이후 단절된 풍속화의 맥을 현대적으로 계승했다는 평가를 받습니다.

짹짹거리는 春心 봄의 마음을 잘 나타내셨습니다.
