Loverboy was a Canadian rock band fronted by vocalist Mike Reno and guitarist Paul Dean. After gaining attention in the North American market with their debut single "Turn Me Loose," they solidified their mainstream success with this album. Combining powerful vocals and guitar with clear synthesizers and catchy choruses, they became one of the defining bands of 1980s arena rock and AOR.

Produced by Bruce Fairbairn and Paul Dean, the album offers a balanced blend of rock energy and radio-friendly pop sensibilities, featuring a range of tracks from strong rhythms and upbeat melodies to more emotional atmospheres. Brian Adams and Jim Vallance contributed to the songwriting on "Jump," and Nancy Nash provided backing vocals on "When It's Over."
