This F20 Moon Jar artwork is created by hand-applying mother of pearl pieces.

Traditionally, Moon Jars were considered vessels of blessings and good fortune. While creating this piece, I pondered the true meaning of 'blessings' and 'fortune.'

Initially, I wanted to create a more eye-catching piece with vibrant backgrounds and diverse expressions. However, as I worked, I came to believe that true fortune and blessings lie not in extravagance.

It's okay to appear a bit simple; it's okay not to be perfect. A life that is modest and elegant, rather than one lived for others' approval, and embracing oneself as is, might be the greatest fortune.

Similarly, a Moon Jar is not a perfect circle. Its slightly misshapen and asymmetrical form creates a warmer, more comforting beauty.

Therefore, I have stripped this artwork down to its essence. Leaving only the Moon Jar against a black background, I aimed to capture the essence rather than mere ostentation.

Imperfection is sufficient.
In my view, blessings and fortune are closer to that state.

자개를 하나하나 손으로 붙여 완성한 F20호 달항아리입니다.

달항아리는 예로부터 복과 행운을 담는 그릇이라 여겨졌습니다. 이 작품을 만들며 저 역시 ‘복’과 ‘행운’이 무엇인지 오래 생각했습니다.

처음에는 화려한 배경과 다양한 표현으로 더 눈에 띄는 작품을 만들고 싶었습니다. 하지만 작업을 이어갈수록 진짜 행운과 복은 화려함에 있지 않다는 생각이 들었습니다.

조금 심심해 보여도 괜찮고, 완벽하지 않아도 괜찮습니다. 남에게 보여주기 위한 삶보다 담백하고 단아한 삶, 그리고 있는 그대로의 모습이야말로 가장 큰 행운일지도 모릅니다.

달항아리 역시 완벽한 원이 아닙니다. 살짝 찌그러지고 비대칭인 모습이 오히려 더 따뜻하고 편안한 아름다움을 만들어냅니다.

그래서 이 작품은 많은 것을 덜어냈습니다. 검은 배경 위에 달항아리 하나만 남겨, 화려함보다 본질을 담고자 했습니다.

완벽하지 않아도 충분합니다.
제가 생각하는 복은 행운은, 그런 모습에 더 가깝습니다.
