This coin, the Heungjo Tongbo, was minted in Yunnan by Sun Kewang, a leader of the peasant army who joined the Namming regime after the Ming Dynasty's fall. The era name 'Heungjo' (Rising Dynasty) reflects the ambition to establish a new dynasty. It served as the economic foundation for the Namming resistance forces, who maintained their independent power despite Qing Dynasty pressure.

The inscription 'Oli (Five Li)' on the back indicates its value of 5 li of silver, showcasing a unique monetary system that specified the exchange rate between coins and silver under the silver-based economic system.

​'흥조(興朝)'라는 연호는 새로운 왕조를 일으키겠다는 의지를 담고 있으며, 청나라의 압박 속에서도 독자적인 세력을 유지하던 남명 저항군의 경제적 기반이 되었습니다.

뒷면에 각인된 '오리(五厘)'는 은 5리의 가치를 지닌다는 의미로, 당시 은본위제 경제 체제 아래에서 동전과 은 사이의 교환 비율을 명시한 독특한 화폐 체계를 보여줍니다.
