Odaeo is recognized as a leading authority in relief pottery in Korea. This piece stands approximately 28cm tall with a diameter of about 32cm.
He is considered the pioneer of high-relief carving (gobujo yanggak), a technique where patterns are sculpted to stand out in three dimensions. This intricate method requires immense skill and effort, making it a signature style that few other artists can replicate.
Furthermore, this large vessel, which combines cobalt blue (cheonghwa) and copper red (jinsa) glazes, is considered a top-tier work among Odaeo's creations.
Active since the mid-1980s, pieces dated from his peak period, such as those from 1987 (Jeongmyo year), 1988 (Mujin year), and 1994 (Gapsul year), are highly sought after in the market.
오대오작가는 대한민국을 대표하는 양각(陽刻) 도예의 권위자 중 한 분입니다.
높이는 약 28센티, 지름은 약 32센티입니다.
고부조 양각(문양을 입체적으로 도드라지게 깎는 것)의 원조 격인 분입니다. 특히 이 기법은 공력이 엄청나게 들어가기 때문에 다른 작가들이 쉽게 흉내 내지 못하는 오대오 작가만의 전매특허와 같습니다.
또한, 청화(푸른색)와 진사(붉은색)를 함께 사용한 대형 기물은 오대오 작가의 작품 중에서도 상급에 속합니다.
1980년대 중반부터 현재까지 꾸준히 활동하고 있습니다. 작품에 기록된 연도(간지)를 보면 1987년(정묘년), 1988년(무진년), 1994년(갑술년) 등에 제작된 작품들이 시장에서 활발히 거래되고 있어, 이 시기가 그의 전성기였습니다.
