This is a Seon drawing of a tiger by Master Seokjeong (1924-2012).

Master Seokjeong was a master Korean Buddhist painter, designated as Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 118, and a master of Seon painting who inherited and developed traditional Buddhist art.

He dedicated his life to the preservation, restoration, and creation of traditional Buddhist paintings after studying under Master Ilseop at the age of 14.

'Samnakja' (삼락자) means 'the three joys of Zen meditation, scripture study, and painting,' reflecting his philosophy of integrating practice and art. He also significantly contributed to scholarship by documenting scattered Buddhist paintings across temples nationwide, completing the monumental 40-volume 'Buddhist Paintings of Korea' series.

The inscription on this painting reads:

丈夫自有衝天氣
장부자유충천기
不向如來行處行
불향여래행처행

This is a famous Buddhist Zen verse often quoted in Seon Buddhism, signifying the spirit of a great man who carves his own path to enlightenment with confidence, rather than blindly following others or the footprints of sages.

It is dated winter, Byeongjin year (1976).

Master Seokjeong humorously depicted a rare tiger in his works. The scroll is in good condition with minor creases from being rolled, and is offered at a low price due to its rarity.

삼락자 석정(1924~2012) 스님은 국가중요무형문화재 제118호로 지정된 한국의 대표적인 불화장이자 전통 불화를 계승·발전시킨 선화의 대가입니다.
14세에 일섭 스님에게서 불화를 사사한 이래 평생을 전통 불화의 보존과 복원, 창작에 바쳤습니다.
삼락지란 뜻은 참선하기 경전 연구하기 그림 그리기'의 세 가지 즐거움을 뜻하며 수행과 예술을 하나로 여겼던 스님의 철학이 담긴 자호 입니다.
평생 전국 사찰에 흩어진 불화를 조사하여 40권 분량의 방대한 저서인 한국의 불화를
완간하는 등 학술적 가치도 크게 높였습니다.

선가에서 자주 인용되는 유명한 불교 선시구절로 남의 뒤나 성인의 발자취를 맹목적으로 좇지 않고 주체적이고 당당하게 자신만의 깨달음과 길을 개척하겠다는 대장부의 기개를 담고 있습니다.
병진 1976년 겨울에 그렸다고 되어있습니다.
삼락자 스님의 작품에서는 아주 희귀한 호랑이를 해학적으로 그리셨습니다.
