This is a celadon porcelain water basin featuring an incised and appliquéd fish and lotus pattern, created by the renowned master ceramist Toam Seowon.

Master ceramist Toam Seowon is a leading figure in Korea's contemporary ceramics scene, particularly recognized for pioneering a unique path in Buncheong ware. He inherited traditional Buncheong techniques while integrating modern aesthetic sensibilities to build his own original body of work. He established Toam Pottery in Gijang-gun, Busan, dedicating his life to the research and creation of ceramics. The site remains a popular cultural space visited by many.

Master Toam emphasized the inherent texture and simplicity of clay over artificial grandeur. With the belief that 'clay does not deceive,' he pursued work that did not defy the principles of nature. He hoped that ceramics would be art to be enjoyed and breathed in daily life, not merely artifacts confined to museums.

This piece is a large water basin, approximately 30 cm in size, decorated with a lotus and fish motif using the incised and appliquéd technique of Buncheong ware. The 'yeokbakji' technique involves incising the white slip to create the pattern, while the 'johwa' technique is used to create the lotus pattern through linear carving. The scales of the fish are charmingly depicted with dotted iron brown.

This basin was crafted using Master Toam's original method, distinct from traditional Joseon Dynasty styles. It would be excellent for use as a water basin or wastewater bowl during tea ceremonies.

Condition: There are signs of use, with tea stains present in the center. Otherwise, it is in good condition. Dimensions: Mouth diameter 30 cm, Height 9 cm. A 30 cm water basin is considered quite rare.

본작품은 30센티 가량의 큰수반으로
분청사기의 박지조화기법으로 연화어문을 표현하였습니다.
이작품에서 역박지기법은 바탕의 백토에 물고기문양을 긁어내 문양을 만드는것이고 조화기법은 연꽃을 선각하여 문양을 만들었습니다.
그리고 물고기안으로 비늘을 철화로 귀엽게 점을 찍어 표현하였습니다.
조선의 방식과는 다른 토암선생의 독창적인 방법으로 제작하였습니다.
다도를 하실때 수반이나 퇴수기등으로 활용하시면 좋겠습니다.
상태는 실사용되어 중앙에 찻물이 스며들어있습니다.
