[BUNJANG] Yuan Dynasty Celadon Porcelain Eight-Sided Vase with Dragon and Auspicious Cloud Decoration / 원 청화백자 팔릉양이소병

This exquisite celadon vase, standing at 10 cm tall, is a remarkable piece from the Yuan Dynasty. Crafted with a thick base formed on a potter's wheel, its exterior has been meticulously shaped into an eight-sided form.

Decorated with a motif of a dragon and auspicious clouds, symbolizing protection against evil spirits (a common motif for 'byuksa' or warding off evil), this vase is a testament to the artistry of the period.

Despite its small size of 10 cm, the body and neck are skillfully joined together using a technique known as 'toecheop,' and the lip is finished with a neat, straight edge.

The base features a flat foot, and the natural occurrence of 'hwaseokhong' (a reddish blush in the glaze) adds to its unique charm.

Decorative elements include a band of lotus petal patterns at the bottom, chrysanthemum patterns in the middle section, and a lattice pattern around the lip.

The interior shows marks from the potter's wheel, and the entire vessel is coated in glaze.

This is a rare, small vase, small enough to fit in the palm of two hands, with a lustrous, jade-like glaze that invites tactile appreciation.

(While glazes may vary across kilns of the Yuan Dynasty, this piece is evaluated based on general ceramic standards of the preceding Tang and Song dynasties, as well as the succeeding Ming and Qing dynasties, due to its inherent quality and authenticity.)

Note: The right hind leg of one of the dragons is missing, an imperfection discovered after some time. Please refer to photo 9. It appears to have been damaged long ago.

높이 10센티
물레로 두텁게 만들어 겉을 팔각으로 다듬고, 액운으로 부터 보호의 뜻인(벽사의 용도)이룡으로 양귀를 장식하였습니다. 10센티의 작은 기물 이지만 허리쪽과 목부분을 이어 붙였습니다( 퇴첩) .입술을 반듯하게 처리하였습니다. 바닥은 평굽이고 화석홍이 아주 자연스럽게 나타납니다.
하단에 연판문, 중단에 국화문,입술부위에 격자문 있습니다.
내부에는 물레자욱과 유약이 전체적으로 시유된 기물입니다.
보기 드물게 두손에 속들어가는 작은 소관입니다 , 전체적으로 유약이 옥처럼 기름진 촉촉한 유면으로 주머니에 넣고 다니며 감상합니다.
( 원대 요지마다 유약은 다럴수 있지만 도자의 기준으로 보고 이전의 당,송과 이후의 명,청 잣대로 봅니다. 감정이 필요없는 기물이기 때문입니다.)
ㅡ이룡한마리의 오른쪽 뒷다리가 없네요,^^ 한동안 모르다가 눈에 띄네요( 9번사진 참조, 오래전에 다친듯)
